Callum’s condition has continued to improve following the tracheotomy and has now been weaned off using the ventilator to support his breathing. Towards the end of last week, he began to show signs of reviving himself by moving his legs and arms and beginning to open his eyes slightly. These periods of activity although becoming more frequent, are separated by longer periods of rest. On Saturday there were slight, but clear attempts for Callum to communicate with visiting family with the limited capacity available to him at the time.
During the night there were minor complications meant that on Sunday that he be placed back on the ventilator to help support his breathing, as he received treatment for a suspected chest infection. Part of that treatment meant that he was still rested for most of the day, but when he was playing some of his favourite music from an iPod he, briefly opened his eyes, smiled and began to bop his head along. We all know how much he loved music, and seeing him respond in such a positive way was truly heartwarming.
We all wait patiently for Callum to come back to us, and for him to take his time in his recovery. Thank you to all who have sent their love, positive thoughts, prayers, and all the other well wishes in between. They are all hugely appreciated by the family, and to Callum too, who I’m sure feels the energy reaching him and helping to power his recovery.
